Wish you could draw, but think you're just not an artist?
Can you draw or write the letters i c s o?
If you can, you already know every stroke you need to begin making Zentangle® art!
The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn way of creating surprisingly intricate and beautiful designs from very simple strokes and patterns. You don’t need artistic experience, special drawing skills, expensive supplies, or even an idea of what you’re going to make. You learn one step at a time and watch something wonderful emerge, one stroke at a time.
There’s no pressure to get it “right.” If a mark goes somewhere you didn’t intend, you don’t erase it or treat it as a failure—you work with it. Very often, that unexpected mark becomes the beginning of something more interesting.
That makes Zentangle® drawing a particularly friendly way to explore your creativity. Instead of worrying about whether you’re “good at art,” you get to enjoy making art—and along the way, discover that you may be more artistic than you think.
There are other benefits, too. The focused, repetitive nature of drawing the patterns can be calming and absorbing, helping quiet some of the mental chatter of everyday life. Research on the Zentangle® Method has found benefits related to stress, anxiety, focus and emotional well-being. Studies with children have also found benefits for creativity and the fine-motor skills used in writing.
And because we’ll be drawing together, there’s another benefit that has nothing to do with art: a chance to meet some of your neighbors and have fun together.
This free neighborhood class is open to everyone ages 8 and up. Children should attend with a supervising adult.
